From Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4

Google Analytics 4 is the successor to the current version Universal Analytics and is more GDPR compliant and is based on user events rather than page view. The change is so drastic that you cannot transfer the current data to the new version. From July 1, 2023, Google will permanently stop using Universal Analytics. After that date, you can view your previously processed data in Universal Analytics for at least 6 months.

The steps below associate the new property with the current version. The code on the website does not have to be changed. If the new property is not linked, the Measurement ID must be added to the website. Please contact us to add it.

1. Upgrade to GA4

  1. Log in to Google Analytics
  2. Navigate to Administration (or click Get Started if there is a banner at the top)
  3. Select the Property you want to upgrade and click Setup Assistant for GA4
  4. Click Get Started to create a new Google Analytics 4 property
  5. In the pop-up, click Create Property
